BREWING UNDERWAY IN S. GLASTONBURY….GENO BUYS CAVEYS

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

BEER BREWING IN SOUTH GLASTONBURY

We have been following the progress on the new brewery in South Glastonbury and beer brewing is now underway! The owners of Hops on the Hill farm brewery off Dug Road have put their heart and soul into transforming this old tobacco barn into a beautiful space in an even more beautiful setting. Brewer, Phil Lohr started brewing beer last week to prepare for opening. He says they’re modeling the brewing process after the German beer culture…a slow and deliberate method that is tried and true. Right now, they’re brewing a Citrus IPA, Light German Lager, and a Nut Brown Ale. We are so pumped…they plan to open this July! To become an integral part of their community and support their growth, contribute to their GoFundMe page. And, see updates on the building process below.

AURIEMMA BUYS CAVEYS IN MANCHESTER

Last month, we heard from multiple sources that Geno Auriemma was going to buy Caveys, but there was some mixed information about whether it was true….WELL IT IS! The Hartford Courant confirmed this Friday. The restaurant has been an institution on East Street in Manchester for years…drawing customers from surrounding towns for it’s delicious French and Italian food and upscale atmosphere. We have celebrated several milestones there and are so excited that it will remain in some capacity. Although details are scarce, we have heard through a few sources that Auriemma will turn the bottom floor into a banquet style facility and the top into an Italian/Steak restaurant. The Hartford Courant reports that Geno will talk more about it this week. Stay tuned…

GIOVANNI’S OUTDOOR PLANS

Giovanni’s Pizza is seeking approval from the town for an OUTDOOR BAR on their patio. They had us at outdoor bar. They are also looking to install an awning, but there are some concerns from the TPZ committee about how this will look. This is such a great place for families. They are so tolerant of all that comes with kiddos and we love them for it. We also love their patio! We will let you know how it turns out.

ODDS & ENDS…

*We are keeping an eye on the opening of a new spa next to Subway on Hebron Avenue. Spa Pointe is currently renovating the former Sundance Salon & Spa space. Who doesn’t love another spot to get pampered?! They hope to open in the next few weeks…we will keep you posted.

*This Saturday, May 11th, is the Bill Landers Run. The run starts at 8:30 AM at the Hubbard Green and winds it’s way through the Buttonball neighborhood. Funds raised from this event go to the Glastonbury Education Foundation. For more info, click HERE.

*Also this Saturday, Welles-Turner Memorial Library will hold their Spring Book Sale from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the front lawn of the library or, if there is bad weather, in the parking garage next to TD Bank. There will be a huge selection of DVDs, CDs, and books. Don’t miss it!

*We love this Mother’s Day pop-up from Barn Door Blooms. This Saturday, they’re offering grab and go farm bouquets at River Bend Book Shop all day until they sell out and a tulip bar at The Silver Dahlia from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Stop in to support local and small. LOVE!

*This Wednesday, there will be a meeting at Town Hall about the Putnam Bridge Multi-Use Trail Connection. The walkway over the bridge is complete, but there is currently no access from Glastonbury or Wethersfield, so the walkway remains closed. The CT DOT will provide updates about the project. If you are interested, the meeting starts at 6:30 PM.
