DAYCARE NEXT TO MELZEN’S…CARINI DEVELOPMENT PLANS

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR CARINI BERRY FARM

Last week, we told you a developer from West Hartford is looking to buy Carini’s Berry Farm. Plans were submitted to Town Hall for initial review. Concerns raised by town officials about the plans include getting sewers to the site, wetlands, and traffic, among others. This was a big story for us last week. The response was quite emotional, understandably. However, we ask that you consider all the facts and not pass judgement on what is an extremely difficult situation for this family. We will follow any updates and bring them to you. See the development layout below.

A LOOK INSIDE THE NORTHAMPTON MARIJUANA DISPENSARY

We are intrigued by all types of business and one that is particularly interesting right now is the marijuana business. As the legislature gets ready to debate the possibility of legalizing recreational marijuana use, we thought it would be interesting to see inside a dispensary, so we visited NETA (New England Treatment Access) in Northampton, MA. MA recently legalized recreational marijuana use. Traffic is busy leading up to it, but four police officers stationed outside keep things moving smoothly. Inside, visitors are given a menu of available options to look at while in line. We didn’t know what to expect, but the inside looks more like a technology retail store than a pot shop. It’s clean, modern, well-organized and very efficient. Customers go to individual stations with a computer and an associate. They can ask questions about different products or order whatever they choose. Everything is kept behind the counters, categorized and labeled. Packaging is retro-style and even a bit futuristic. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, the outcome of this bill will certainly be interesting to watch.

NEW DAYCARE PROPOSED FOR OAK STREET

Proposed plans to build a new daycare next to Melzen’s have been unanimously approved by the Town Plan & Zoning Commission. Plans for the 10,000 square foot facility include an outdoor play area. The Learning Center has locations in Windsor, South Windsor, and Manchester. They offer programs for Infants through after-school care for Kindergartners. See BELOW for a picture of the lot where this is proposed (to the right of Melzen’s).
