GENERAL LANDSCAPING...PLUS HARTFORD BAKING COMPANY COMING TO TOWN

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

FEATURED SCOOP: GENERAL LANDSCAPING SERVING CUSTOMERS FOR DECADES

Jeff Pell started General Landscaping in 1978 and has been transforming yards around town ever since. The company now has 30 trucks and 55 employees on the road during their peak season. They offer lawn maintenance and mowing, landscape design and installation, masonry, and commercial snow removal. Many of Jeff's employees (and Jeff himself) were born and raised in town and have stayed with the company for more than 20 years. That means customers get the same people on the phone when they call and the same crew maintaining their lawn week after week. Pretty cool, right? What's also cool is when we showed up for this FEATURE shoot, almost everyone there was a GHS graduate...talk about a hometown business! Now's the time to call them if you're looking for yard service. Click HERE to find out more about what they do or stop in and tell them we sent you.

HARTFORD BAKING COMPANY TO NEW DEVELOPMENT

If you missed our BREAKING SCOOP last week, this is pretty darn exciting! Hartford Baking Company is coming to the new development at 400 Hebron Avenue on the corner of Sycamore Street. This will be their third location. They started as a small operation on New Park Avenue in West Hartford and grew to a second spot along Farmington Avenue in West Hartford center. They have plans to expand into the Farmington Valley and along the shore as well. They offer homemade breads, pastries, coffee, and sandwiches. A great addition to Glastonbury!

THE CENTER OF DANCE EXCELLENCE NOW OPEN

The Code (Center of Dance Excellence) opens TODAY at 174 Oakwood Drive in the building with Keller Williams. Owner, Eduardo Vazquez, says his focus will be solely on technique and competition. Eduardo's background is fascinating. A dancer most of his life, at 21, he started touring with Cirque du Soleil. When he wasn't touring, he taught dance in Vegas and prepared many of his students for auditions so big, they went on to shows like America's Got Talent and World of Dance. His tag lines...'Can you crack the code?' and 'Ditch Ordinary'...pretty much sum up the non-traditional theme at this new studio. Find him HERE to register for classes and check out his ultra-mod space below.

WILD VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERIENCE AT OAKWOOD GOLF

Oakwood Virtual Golf is now offering a new virtual reality experience! We tried it. It's FUN. And TERRIFYING. The "experiences" range from a 'walk-the plank' game (we could NOT walk the plank!), to Google Earth (you can fly over your own house or go anywhere in the world), and a sci-fi adventure where you meet aliens and dinosaurs. If you haven't experienced the virtual world in this capacity, gather up your friends and head there for some laughs. Did we mention they have a bar? And, not just any bar, but THE bar from the iconic Raffa's restaurant. How cool is that? Owners, Tom and Rebecca Delaney bought it after tracking it down in storage. What a great story!

ODDS & ENDS…

*We've heard from multiple sources that El Pollo Guapo has possibly signed a lease for the old Gideon's BBQ space! The love for this food cannot be stressed enough...it's SOOOOOO good. Glastonbury residents, Roy and Heather Riedl started with Mercado Food truck (a food truck fan favorite), expanded to Wethersfield and then Hartford. If you haven't tried them, get on it people!

*Work has started inside Figs as it gets transformed into Cotton Hollow Kitchen. We spoke with Mark Conley last week and their target for opening is the end of October. They aren't doing major renovations, but they are redesigning the inside. Can't wait to see it! Congrats to Mark on this exciting new adventure!

*The Glastonbury Children's Tag Sale is this Friday and Saturday, September 20th and 21st from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the POC (980 Chestnut Hill Road). There are always some great high-end clothing brands and toys at this sale, so don't miss it!

*There is a special lecture being held at Brookdale Buckingham Memory Care October 15th from 5:30 to 6:30 PM for those who have a loved one with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Speaker, Suzanne Sorensen will cover topics such as driving, personal care, wandering, and safety around the house. RSVP to Suzanne.sorensen@brookdale.com or 860.647.1695.
