DEVELOPMENT ACROSS FROM APARTMENT COMPLEX
Across from the new apartments near the first rotary on Hebron Avenue is a tract of land where there is a proposed development for retail and restaurant space. This is directly across the street from One Glastonbury Place. There are several old houses and buildings there now, but the plan is to replace them with a 20,000 square foot building. LOCAL COUPLE CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK ABOUT ICE CREAM TRUCKS
We love ice cream possibly more than any other dessert on Earth, so this story sang to our sweet tooth! Local residents, Matt and Cristina Zajac have recently brought their ice cream dream to life in the form of an ice cream truck called Blue Chip Creamery. Blue Chip means ‘of the highest quality’ and they believe their ice cream is THE best! They traveled to many different ice cream shops before settling on their favorite. It’s 14% butterfat, which means it is rich and decadent. They offer custom Chipwiches and lots of fun flavors. Their motto and favorite hashtag is #eatdessertfirst and we couldn’t agree more! WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT APPLE FEST
The 44th Annual Apple Harvest Festival is just one week away and we are SO excited! This year, there are some new attractions, including the ‘Silly String Asylum’, which is essentially a blocked off area where you can pay per can of silly string and spray to your heart’s delight! There will also be a S’mores Station operated by The Rotary Club of Glastonbury (kids love S’mores). The CT River Valley Chamber folks (who work round the clock to make this happen) say they returned to the festival’s roots to feature only craft vendors this year. THINGS TO REMEMBER: $5 per person at the door/Parking at GHS with shuttles to and from/NO DOGS/Vendors open daylight hours only/VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED. THE SCOOP and friends will be volunteering in the Angry Orchard Pub Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, so please come see us and say hello!
LOCAL BUSINESS TO RAISE MORE MONEY FOR BOY WITH RECURRING CANCER
American Integrity Restoration has organized a team of runners for the Angry Orchard 5K Road Race to help raise money for 7-year old Kyle Ashley from Colchester who is battling a form of cancer. We first introduced you to this brave little boy when M.E.L.T did a fundraiser for him this past June. After extensive chemo and a leg amputation, Kyle and his family were recently told the cancer has relapsed in his lungs. He will undergo 12 more months of chemo. American Integrity Restoration is donating $10 of every runner or walker’s registration fee to Kyle’s family. PLEASE consider helping this little boy! Register for the road race here. *The town’s new networking group for young professionals called SPARC (Suburban Professionals Achieving Real Change) is also helping to raise money for Kyle. Tonight, they will hold their monthly networking meet up at Fig’s Bistro + Bar from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. They are asking those who attend to donate to the Ashley family.

*Recently, you may have noticed some changes at Daybreak Coffee Roasters. The new owners added a new coffee roaster and new payment system. They’re also introducing a new menu that looks delightful! It includes egg sandwiches, paninis, soups, salads, and snacks. Check it out below.
*BREWERY UPDATE: Construction is moving along at the new brewery in South Glastonbury. Here are some cool pictures of them lifting the old tobacco barn (moved there in the 1950’s) to lay down a cement foundation which will help stabilize the building. The Hops on the Hill Farm Brewery off Dug Road is expected to open Spring 2019.
