THE MARLBOROUGH TAVERN’S LEGEND CONTINUES
The iconic Marlborough Tavern has a new look, but maintains it’s historic feel. In just a few short weeks, before Thanksgiving, this legendary place will reopen. New owners, Evan and Allen Schwartz, along with their team, GM Justin Morales and head Chef Peter Varkala, worked carefully to represent the tavern’s storied past in EVERY. LAST. DETAIL. They kept many of the original attributes…the huge, stone fireplace, the post and beam structures, an old sign from the last time it was open, and a wall of prints that showcase the tavern’s path. Their deliberate restoration has paid off. The space is warm and inviting, the details charming, the history apparent. We’re excited to reveal their American Tavern inspired menu that includes a lot of feel good, comfort foods and cocktails named after the original owners and visitors from another time. WELL-KNOWN PILATES INSTRUCTOR AUTHORS BOOK ABOUT PAIN
Maggie Downie is a pain relief expert. Her extensive background in Pilates led her to focus on how to reduce pain for her clients. Her first book, Keep Moving is a practical, easy-to-understand guide, that describes how you do just that without drugs or surgery. It features helpful illustrations (many are based on clients she has helped from Glastonbury), funny, relatable stories, and advice on how to alleviate pain and get moving again. Maggie is the founder of Personal Euphoria, a fitness and wellness company. Her company also offers programs through Glastonbury’s Parks & Rec Department. Maggie is down to earth and personable and her new book reflects that. It is currently the #1 New Release under the Pilates category on Amazon.
RIVER BEND BOOK SHOP SNEAK PEEK
As we mentioned about a month ago, River Bend Book Shop has found a home on Main Street in the old Jan’s on Main space. Owner, Meghan Hayden has been setting up shop there for several weeks and is so excited that she is opening her doors a bit early for customers to get a SNEAK PEEK. Saturday and Sunday, November 10th and 11th from 12:00 to 4:00 PM, River Bend will be open for customers to check out some of their offerings. We popped in to say hello and wanted to show you a selection of some cute gifts. They plan to be open for Small Business Saturday!
ICONIC BUSHNELL PARK OPENING NEW PLAYGROUND
A lot has been done to spruce up the historic Bushnell Park Carousel and surrounding area. The Bushnell Park Foundation is excited to announce the Grand Opening of the new playground next to the carousel. Saturday, November 17th, they will have a ribbon-cutting, FREE carousel rides from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM and ice cream from Capital Ice Cream for the first 100 children. There are two structures for different aged children. The playground reflects the beautiful history of Hartford, including the State Capitol dome and the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch. There are a few photos below, but if you have time, join them in person and celebrate this happy event for the city.

*The Glastonbury YMCA is holding a fundraiser this Saturday, November 10th from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Shopping for a Cause will include a wine and beer tasting, dinner, and a live and silent auction. For tickets or to join the auction, click HERE. Money raised will help families in need pay for child care, camps, and pre-school.

*Apella Capital is hosting their 2nd Annual Connecting Through Art event this Thursday, November 8th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Guests are invited to browse the gallery of artwork from three award-winning artists. There will also be art demonstrations.
