THE BEAMHOUSE OPENS THIS WEEK…THE FRESH MONKEE EXPANDS AGAIN

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

THE BEAMHOUSE OPENS THIS WEEK

The Beamhouse at The Tannery on New London Turnpike is just days from opening and we were excited to get a first taste of their menu and see the finished space. It is beautiful and inviting. There is a small bar when you walk in, called The Taproom, and a larger bar in the seating area of the restaurant. The menu includes small and large plates, beer, wine, and unique cocktails. We enjoyed the Smoked Gouda Mac + Cheese, Slider Trio, Crispy Pork Belly, and Local Orchard Peach Flat (bread). Dessert was equally delish…Key Lime Crème Brulee and Buckeye Cheesecake. It’s impressive to note that their head chef was previously head chef at The Golden Lamb Buttery in Brooklyn, CT. They open by the end of this week, possibly earlier, so stay with us for an exact day.

HILLSIDE STABLE DEVELOPMENT

We recently heard through a few different sources that housing developers are surveying the land on Bell Street where Hillside Stable is located. The property has been for sale for years. The sources said there are plans to build about 30 houses on the site. We will update you when we know more.

FRESH MONKEE EXPANDING AGAIN

The Fresh Monkee is announcing this week that they will open their 5th location in Manchester. This is a really exciting time for the small, start-up shake shop. We announced just weeks ago that they would open a location in Southington. The Manchester store will take over the space of the former Fast Signs next to Beach House Tanning in The Plaza at Buckland Hills. Renovations begin this week and they expect to open in October.

NEW LOCATION FOR MASSAGE CENTER

Glastonbury Massage Center has moved into the space with Glastonbury Cryotherapy at 730 Hebron Avenue. Damato Chiropractic Center of Glastonbury owns the businesses and recently renovated the space to accommodate both businesses. The massage center was previously at 76 Eastern Boulevard.

PUBLIC HEARING FOR LIBRARY EXPANSION PLANS

There will be a public hearing at Town Hall on August 7th at 8:00 PM for plans to expand the Welles-Turner Memorial Library. The town council is currently reviewing the project. The expansion is expected to cost $6.5 million and will include additional space for children and teens, a new outdoor children’s terrace, media studio, and computer center. If approved, the project would begin in 2019 and last about a year and a half. We have included the expansion plans below with closeups of areas of interest.

TRANSITION BACK INTO THE WORKFORCE EVENT

There is an interesting event in Hartford that will appeal to stay at home moms looking to return to the workforce. Untap YOUR Potential ~ A Mentor Mingle will be held this Thursday, August 2nd. If you can’t make the event, check out Untapped Potential to see how you can transition into the workplace after staying at home with kids or caring for a loved one. It’s a pretty awesome service and exists right here in Hartford County! Check out the flyer below for deets.

*100% Martial Arts will no longer offer karate classes for kids. The studio started an adult kickboxing program 3 years ago. The success of those classes led to their recent decision.
