THE LATEST ON MAX’S RESTAURANT…POPULAR BBQ SPOT CLOSED

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

MAX RESTAURANT GROUP CLOSING ONE RESTAURANT, PLANS TO OPEN ANOTHER

The Hartford Courant recently reported that Max Amore is closing at the end of this month after 25 years in business in The Shops at Somerset Square. While out and about, we heard many stories from people about the memories they have of the popular restaurant….from birthday celebrations, to engagements, or retirement parties…it was a great place to honor something special and will certainly be missed by many. BUT…(although the deal is not final)Max Restaurant Group is planning to build a new, stand-alone restaurant in town. What is confirmed is there is currently a proposal in to Town Hall for a 3-thousand square foot restaurant with outdoor seating to be built next to Bruegger’s. We suspect this is the spot, but nothing is confirmed. When all is signed and done, we will reveal their new location. Stay tuned…

GIDEON’S BBQ CLOSED

Gideon’s BBQ announced last Monday that it was their last day of business. We have reached out to them, but haven’t heard back yet. Surrounding business owners told us it seemed very abrupt, but they didn’t know why they closed. There was a big response to our initial story about this, so we know there were a lot of fans of their food. They will be missed.

UPDATES TO WOODLEDGE POOL CLUB

If you are weighing the idea of joining a pool club, we have the answer for you! Have you ever been to Woodledge on Hopewell Road? We recently visited there for the first time and it was pretty awesome. It’s like a little oasis in the middle of the woods! There was full sun on the pool (we love that…it is summer after all!), but also several shady spots, including a pavillion if you are looking to escape the direct heat. They recently renovated and have a brand new swimming pool. It’s beautiful. Some of their amenities include a diving board, tennis courts (three of which are Har Tru clay), a basketball court, toddler pool, and playground. They host all kinds of social events and offer swim and tennis teams. It seems like a no-brainer. Entertainment for the kiddos ALL. SUMMER. LONG. We got some great pictures that showcase this unique spot. Check them out below. Or, if you are interested in a membership, email membership@woodledge.org.

STOP & SHOP GOES HIGH TECH

Have you met Marty the robot at Stop & Shop on Oakwood Drive? It’s tough to miss! It scoots around the grocery store searching for spills or potential hazards to customers and then pages over the intercom what and where it is located in the store. There are cameras inside moving in all directions to detect issues. We found it fascinating and kind of want to know if they named the bot after Marty the manager (who we love)! What do you think?

FLOTATION THERAPY IN AVON

Although slightly out of our normal zone, we thought this was super interesting and had to share. There is a new flotation therapy studio opening in Avon. Imagine Float will feature three flotation rooms. The practice, which has been around for decades, includes clients submersing themselves in a tank of body-temperature shallow water filled with 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt. Epsom salt has all kinds of benefits. It promotes sleep and reduces stress, pain and swelling of the joints. The actual flotation therapy takes pressure off your muscles, joints, and bones while relieving stress. Sounds like a double-dose of amazingness! Find out more about this cool, new experience HERE.

ODDS & ENDS…

*There is a beer garden coming to the Pump House in Bushnell Park this summer. Did you hear that? A BEER GARDEN!!!! The Hartford Courant reports that Hanging Hills Brewery and Hog River Brewery are teaming up with Harry’s Pizza in West Hartford to provide craft beers and food at the historic spot.
