TOWN’S 325TH CELEBRATION…HAYRIDES AT HEBRON AVE FARM

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

HAPPY 325TH BIRTHDAY GLASTONBURY

If you haven’t heard, Glastonbury is turning 325 years old and the town is having a huge celebration at The Boathouse.  Next Sunday, September 16th, there will be LIVE music, food trucks, lawn games, adventure tours on the river with L.L. Bean and a FIREWORKS display!  Festivities begin at 3:30 PM and end after the fireworks, scheduled for 7:30 PM. They are still trying to reach their fundraising goal of $25,000 to help make the party a success.  For a schedule of events or to donate, visit the town’s website

KARATE STUDIO OWNER ON A MISSION TO EMPOWER WOMEN

Rich Kohler of Kohler Elite Karate & Krav Maga wants to help women help themselves.  This year, Kohler wants to empower 1,000 women by teaching them to protect themselves from predators, abusive spouses, or a random attack.  In collaboration with Interval House (a non-profit in Hartford that helps abused women), Fox 61, and iHeart Radio, he’s hosting Time’s Up Tune Up.  It will be an hour-long self-defense workshop at Goodwin College.  Sign up here with a friend (or encourage someone you think might need this) and learn how to kick some butt!

FALL FAVORITES AT THE FARMS

Fall is just weeks away and the farms are gearing up for one of their biggest seasons.  Apple picking is underway at Scott’s Nursery and Dondero Orchard.  Dondero’s is offering their famous apple fritters now too!  This is exciting news for East Glastonbury folks…Rose’s Berry Farm will now offer hayrides and pumpkin picking at their Hebron Avenue stand starting September 22nd.  And, Killam & Bassette Farmstead has an amazing selection of mums at their stand on Main Street.

GIDEON WELLES PAINTING MOVED

Wondering what happened to the striking painting of Gideon Welles that was in front of the library?  It’s been moved to it’s final home…Gideon Welles School, of course!  A team of movers dismantled the painting and moved it last week.  What a great addition to the school!

PIG ROAST AT LOCAL FARM THIS WEEKEND

Killam & Bassette Farmstead is hosting their Fresh From The Farm Pig Roast Fundraiser this coming Sunday, September 15th at 4:00 PM.  Six years ago this month, farm owner, Chris Bassette lost her mother Judy Lynch.  Bassette has since started a scholarship in her Mom’s name awarded to two students at the high school each year who show a strong work ethic and put others first (some of her Mom’s mottos).  Money raised goes toward those scholarships.  Get your tickets here and join them for a fun evening on the farm.

ODDS AND ENDS…

*The Beamhouse is expected to open for LUNCH in 2 weeks!  We will keep you posted as the date gets closer and hope to have a preview of the MENU soon.

*The poster for this year’s Apple Fest has been unveiled and it’s awesome.  The picture was taken by Glastonbury resident, Sam Rodriguez from All American Aerial. Work by the aerial media and drone service has been featured on ABC, the History Channel and Discover Channel. Rodriguez was testing his drone from his house nearby and took the gorgeous picture below.  Can’t wait for this year’s festival October 12th to 14th!  If you post a picture, be sure to use this hashtag: #AHF2018

*A Summer favorite is on the menu all year long at Maggie McFly’s!  The kid-friendly restaurant offers S’mores at the table and it’s a blast for kids.  Check it out to remind yourself of those Summer nights!

*The Hartford Symphony offers families a chance to introduce young children to the symphony with their Family Series.  Their members bring music into different communities…including Glastonbury.  This April, they will host a Family Series at the CT Audubon Center on Main Street.  There will also be an event at The Lutz Children’s Museum over the line in Manchester.  Check out their website for a list of events and tickets.
