FEATURED SCOOP: GREATER HARTFORD DANCE ACADEMY OF GLASTONBURY FEELS LIKE A NEW YORK CITY DANCE STUDIO

Tis' the season for dance registration and if your little dancers are looking to try something new, check out Greater Hartford Dance Academy of Glastonbury. We recently had the pleasure of visiting them at their studio on Oakwood Drive and IT. IS. STUNNING. The space literally makes you feel like you are at a professional studio in Manhattan. Owner, Bambi Donohue hasn't missed a single beat...thinking of everything little dancers need to succeed. Their history is impressive. Bambi's mom started the business 70 years ago at the age of 10 (yes, 10!), charging 10-cents a lesson in the attic of her childhood home in Hartford. After several moves, they settled at the Glastonbury location where they have been for 17 years. Bambi teaches every class herself with help from assistants. She says her goal...always...is not just to teach dance, but to mold young minds and help them prepare for the future. They offer nearly every type of dance for kids 18 months and up and are currently registering for this fall! CALL 860.633.DANC (3262) TO REGISTER!

ORGANIC COFFEE SHOP OPENS IN DERR PLAZA

A Cup of Joy Coffee and Tea Cafe opens TODAY in the former Down to Earth Coffee space across from Ken's Corner in Derr Plaza. We did a story on this mother daughter team back in July as they were renovating the space. Jessica Chenery and her mom, Deborah Rawlinitis will offer organic coffee and tea, vegan and gluten-free baked goods, and other lite fare. Visit them today for their grand opening!

PREPARED FOODS SHOP OPENING IN OLD WETHERSFIELD

There is a new fresh food shop opening on Main Street in Old Wethersfield. Grange Fresh Market in Grange Hall (next to Larissa Lake) is expected to open by the end of this month/early September. They will offer all kinds of breakfast and lunch wraps and sandwiches, build-your-own salad bar, along with to-go dinner options. Follow them on Instagram for the latest on an opening date!

NEW CIDER TASTING ROOM IN EAST HADDAM

This is slightly off the path, but we know cider lovers will be psyched to hear that a new cider tap room is opening in East Haddam. The Yankee Cider Company has gutted and renovated a barn at Staehly Farms (23 Petticoat Lane) and will open this Saturday, August 24th for tastings. They won Best Connecticut Cider last year. See more about them HERE or visit them this weekend.

ODDS & ENDS…

*We recently got an update about the new Edge Fitness being built behind Chili's on Main Street in Glastonbury. They started clearing the land a few months ago and we now know that they have a projected opening for the Summer of 2020. We will keep you posted if that changes.

*The CT Audubon Center is hosting a new kids' program on Wacky Wednesdays. Animal Adventures will be every Wednesday for 5 weeks from 2:30 to 4:00 PM starting September 11th. Kids ages 8 and up will help take care of the animals at the center. Register HERE.

*Did you know the Calm App offers teachers a FREE subscription? It's part of their Calm Schools Initiative to help teachers include quiet time or periods where kids can set intentions. The offer includes any teacher K-12. Click HERE to fill out the form for the FREE subscription.

*The Bushnell Park Carousel is turning 105 years old and celebrating with a day of fun! This Saturday, August 24th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, there will be FREE rides all day, FREE cake and punch at 1:00 PM, train rides around the park, face painters, costumed characters and more! If you have never been to this iconic spot, it's a must visit!
