*BREAKING SCOOP*
The Town Plan & Zoning Commission APPROVED plans to build a 5-story apartment complex that includes affordable housing at the corner of Manchester Road and Hebron Ave. TPZ Members voted (with great hesitation) 4-2 in favor of the project. The plan included what is known as the 8-30g statute which only allows a denial if there are issues with public safety or health.
HERE’S THE SCOOP…
MINNECHAUG TREE COMPANY'S STELLAR SERVICE AND REPUTATION
Mike Presta started Minnechaug Tree Company 28 years ago because of his love for trees. The born and raised Glastonbury resident loves to focus on not only removing trees, but also protecting and caring for them. His partner, Bruce Sullivan (also a Gbury native) has four decades of experience as an arborist and understands what it takes to properly plant, maintain, and remove trees. The two are members of the Connecticut Tree Protective Association and have built a reputation for commitment to customers and the safety of their employees investing millions of dollars in some of the best equipment to ensure you have a seamless experience with tree removal on your property. Their best advice for homeowners is to always ask for PROOF OF INSURANCE sent directly from an agent. They offer discounts to veterans and seniors who are struggling financially. NEW JAMAICAN BAKERY TO TOWN
A new Jamaican style bakery recently opened in Glastonbury Corporate Center (the same building as the Board of Education) at 628 Hebron Avenue. For reference, this is over behind Healthtrax. Nyam Bakery Cafe offers specialty breads and sweets, but also has a full menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches. It looks DEE-LISH! Can't wait to try it.
CONSTRUCTION ON PATH BETWEEN GLASTONBURY/WETHERSFIELD IS UNDERWAY
The long-awaited bike/walk path from Glastonbury to Wethersfield is now under construction. The plan includes new parking lots and paved trails across the Putnam Bridge over the Connecticut River. The path will allow bikers and walkers to travel from Naubuc Avenue in Glastonbury to Great Meadow Road in Wethersfield. The project is expected to be complete by the fall of 2023.
ODDS & ENDS...
*Sponsored by The Custom Shop
*We are hearing that there is possibly a NEW restaurant/bar going into the old Incredible Edibles/Simple Greek space next to Max Fish. The buzz is that it's some type of champagne bar. We are working on this and will let you know as soon as we confirm.
*Glastonbury Barre and Yoga has CLOSED their doors for good. The fitness studio was in space across from Ken's Corner. The owner said in a Facebook post that the pandemic, lack of skilled staff, and rising costs of running a business contributed to the closure.
*The parking garage at Eric Town Square is currently CLOSED because of safety concerns. We are told pieces of the garage fell into the lower level this weekend. The fire department was called in and asked restaurant goers to remove their cars immediately. We are reaching out to the owners and will keep you posted! See pics below.
