THIS MORTGAGE COMPANY HAS BEEN AROUND FOR MORE THAN TWO CENTURIES...PLUS, COLONY GRILL TO SOMERSET

HERE’S THE SCOOP…

WASHINGTON TRUST TO CELEBRATE 225 YEARS!

We love an origin story and this one is a goodie for sure! First, let's just give Washington Trust a huge round of applause for celebrating 225 years in business...an INCREDIBLE feat that is due to their ability to adjust, adapt, and progress over the last two centuries (Just WOW!). You know you're a big deal when you're named after the nation's first president, George Washington. The bank was founded in Westerly, Rhode Island in 1800 after a group of entrepreneurs decided they needed a bank closer to home to support their growing farming and fishing community. They have since persevered through both the Great Depression and the Great Recession helping people build their dreams along the way. Although based in Rhode Island, the bank has a location right here in Glastonbury, along with a team that is deeply rooted in this community. Both Steve Veronesi and Ann Kramer are Glastonbury residents with decades of experience in the mortgage industry. We know and love them both! FASCINATING FACTS: 1. Washington Trust was the first bank to print George Washington's likeness on currency - 69 years before he first appeared on the federally issued one-dollar bill. 2. The bank is 86 years old than the Statue of Liberty. 3. They celebrated 60 years the year Abraham Lincoln won the Presidency. 4. When the Wright Brothers took flight at Kitty Hawk, they had been helping people achieve their financial goals for more than 100 years! Mind-blowing and super impressive to think that they endured all this time. Today, at Washington Trust Mortgage Company’s Glastonbury office, located at 200 Glastonbury Blvd., they assist clients with a wide range of mortgage needs—specialty lending products, fixed-rate, adjustable-rate, construction, affordable housing, and first-time homebuyer loans. COLONY GRILL TO THE SHOPS AT SOMERSET

ICYMI: We announced on social last week that Colony Grill is coming to the former Cold Water Creek space in The Shops at Somerset Square. This has been in the works for awhile and there are still some kinks to work out, but we (and pretty much everyone on social) could not be more excited about this news. The popular pizza restaurant started in Stamford in 1935 with their signature thin crust, hot oil pizza. They are the official pizza of the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins. They are still working their way through the town process which includes parking and change of use from retail to restaurant. Stay tuned for an opening date!

THE GALLERY UPDATE

Market Hospitality Group is still moving forward with their plans to renovate The Gallery and add two new restaurants: Marketplace Kitchen & Bar and Mercato Italian Kitchen & Bar. The current owners are selling the building to Market Hospitality Group so that has been the reason for the delay. They will close in 60-90 days and hopefully start construction soon after that. Stay patient people...we are also chomping at the bit for this to happen!

OTHER SOMERSET SCOOP

TIGER BELLY NOODLE BAR: They have demo'd the space and are waiting on a construction permit. We are also patiently waiting for this to move forward since we hear it is the BEST food ever.

LUX BOND & GREEN: They are moving soon into the old Blue Mercury space TEMPORARILY while they do a complete renovation to their current store. They are hoping to have it completed and be moved back in by the end of September.

GOOD TO KNOW: We have heard there are are two other UH-AMAZING restaurants interested in the former Max Amore and Blue Mercury spaces. STAY TUNED.
